Columbia University has faced a wave of criticism over the name of a dish in a student canteen. On the day of the third anniversary of the Hamas attacks on Israel, “Blash sauce on October 7” appeared on the menu.
The unusual proposal drew the attention of the journalist of the Israeli newspaper Haaretz Simona Saidmer. She posted information on social network X, noting that the sauce was served to the pasta in the "special offer of the day" section. The choice of date and name caused a sharp discontent of the public.
The attack on Israel occurred on October 7, 2023. Hamas fighters fired rockets from the Gaza Strip, penetrated the border areas and opened fire on civilians and military. As a result, about 1.2 thousand people were killed, more than 250 were taken hostage.
