The Council of the Polar Region spoke about the work of the Northern Transport Company

The Council of the Polar Region continues the rubric of interesting facts dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the district. The following fact: the municipal enterprise of the Zapolyarsky district "Northern Transport Company" is the only enterprise in the entire region that is engaged in the official transportation of passengers and cargo along Nizhnepechora by water transport.

The enterprise involves several vessels of different types: motor boats, water cannon boats, hovercraft, aeroglisser.

Last year, the company performed 954 flights, transported more than 11 thousand passengers, the number of hours of operation of ships amounted to 2341.

The history of the enterprise began in 2005 with the resolution of the head of the Administration of the NAO “On the establishment of the state unitary enterprise of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug “Naryan-Mar Transport Company”. The first head of the new organization was appointed Chuprov Vladimir Filippovich.

In 2007, in connection with the formation on the territory of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug of a new municipal district "Zapolyarny District", whose powers under federal law included the organization of passenger transportation between settlements, the leadership of the region decided to transfer the enterprise as a property complex from state ownership to the ownership of the municipal district.

The company was renamed "Northern Transport Company" and acquired the status of municipal.

In early October 2026, 2 more hovercraft were delivered to Naryan-Mar for the needs of the enterprise. SVPs were purchased at the expense of the Polar region to ensure regular passenger traffic in the off-season.
