Students and teachers of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI completed a rich four-day program in the Smolensk region. The visit was organized within the framework of the program “Hospitable cities of Rosatom” (“Tour of opportunities”) with the support of the Rosmolodezh project “More than travel” and the national project “Youth and children”.
The program combined familiarity with production, career guidance and tourism. The guests visited the Smolensk NPP on a technical tour at the operating power unit No. 1, inspecting the reactor and turbine compartments, as well as the premises of the main circulating pumps. In the training unit, students tried themselves as operators on a full-scale simulator of the control panel, and in the information and exhibition complex immersed themselves in the world of modern nuclear technologies.
The tourist part included excursions to Desnogorsk, a visit to the memorial “Kurgan of Glory”, a historical and local history museum and acquaintance with the art project “Guardians of Atomgrad” – bronze figures of nuclear scientists. The guests also rested at the Desnogorsk reservoir and attended a gastronomic master class.
