The priest explained whether the torment of hell lasts forever

In the Orthodox tradition, there is no unambiguous answer to the question of how long hellish torments can last. This was told by the priest, commenting on the idea of the posthumous fate of man.

According to the priest, in the Gospel there is no clear indication of the time a person stays in heaven or hell. He noted that the usual ideas about time, hours and dates are difficult to transfer to the questions of the afterlife.

The priest also said that some saints admitted the possibility that the tortures could be temporary. At the same time, such a view, he said, does not mean that a person is exempt from responsibility for actions committed during life.

From the point of view of Christian teaching, the main task of the believer is the path to God. The priest described heaven as living with God, and hell as a state of mind that cannot or will not accept God’s love.

Thus, the priest did not name a specific period of hellish torture, stressing the lack of a clear answer to this question.
