Tanechkina pine took third place in the competition “Russian tree of the year”

At 300-year-old Tanechkina pine trees installed a memorial plaque. The tree took third place in the competition “Russian Tree of the Year”. This was reported in the press service of the Directorate of specially protected natural territories of the Leningrad region.

In Syashstroy, next to Tanechkina pine, on October 8, a memorial plaque was installed. The 300-year-old tree took the honorable third place in the national competition “Russian Tree of the Year”, which is part of the program “Trees – Monuments of Wildlife”. A tree from the Leningrad region became a prize-winner for the first time.

The event was attended by Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Natural Resources of the Leningrad Region Dmitry Khaltunen, Head of the Directorate for Specially Protected Natural Territories of the Region Alexander Siluyanov, officials from the district and city administrations, representatives of the Lenobles Logku and representatives of school forestry.

Pine growing on the beach in Syasyastroy, has long been the hallmark of the city. This magnificent tree is about three hundred years old. It breaks through the sand, remaining an important element of the local landscape for many decades.

The name of the pine tree is associated with the local legend about the girl Tanechka, lost in caves in the XIX century. She was searched for by the whole village and found alive on the fourth day. Since then, the name of Tanechka has been fixed behind the cave and pine on the dune.

“The bronze of the Russian Tree of the Year is a recognition of the natural and cultural value of Tanechkina Pine and another reason to pay attention to the long-lived trees of the Leningrad region,” the press service of the Directorate noted.
