Rescuers - how home comfort turns into a threat

Strict implementation of state standards is the basis of a stable society. That is why, on the eve of the heating season, the Ministry of Emergency Situations is intensifying inspections of furnace heating in the residential sector, which directly echoes the requirements of Directive No. 1 “On measures to strengthen public safety and discipline”. Ensuring the serviceability of furnaces is not just a personal responsibility of each owner, but a basic element of public safety, without which it is impossible to create a favorable and protected social environment.

In 2025, according to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, 1,285 fires occurred in the country due to violation of the rules for the operation of furnaces, heat-generating devices and units. The main causes of tragedies in all regions remain unchanged: through cracks in the hull and chimney, heat, placement of combustible substances and materials on the furnace, as well as untimely cleaning of the chimney from soot.

Deputy Head of the Belynichsky District Committee for Emergency Situations Dmitry Shevchenko told how the survey is conducted on the ground:

- With the beginning of the heating period, special attention is paid to households of lonely and lonely elderly citizens, as well as disabled people of the first and second groups who use the oven. During each exit, rescuers remind: when operating furnaces, it is unacceptable to use flammable and flammable liquids for ignition. You cannot burn an oven with open doors. It is forbidden to heat the furnace, place combustible substances and materials on it and near the furnace holes. You can not leave burning stoves unattended and entrust supervision of them to children. It is also prohibited to use coal, coke and gas for stoves not intended for these fuels. It is possible to close the chimney valve only after complete combustion of the fuel and removal of coal and ash. Ash, coals and slag, scavenged from furnaces, must be poured with water until completely attenuated.

If you do not have confidence in your abilities and knowledge, it is better to contact specialized organizations. Their specialists will perform work on inspection, installation, repair of the furnace and cleaning of smoke channels.

According to Dmitry Shevchenko, in the area for the year there were 26 fires, 10 of them due to violation of the rules of operation of furnaces and heat-generating devices. This is almost 39 percent of the total. The main reason is the human factor and neglect of simple rules. Ignoring them could end in tragedy.
