According to analytical data of RIA Novosti for the period from January to September 2026, the Republic of Tatarstan took the fourth position in the rating of housing rental affordability among the constituent entities of the Russian Federation. The study evaluated the possibility of renting a typical two-bedroom apartment for a conventional family of two adults and two children. The methodology provided that after deducting the subsistence minimum for each family member, 70% of the remaining funds were used to cover rent payments, and 30% for other expenses. The proportion of families able to rent was calculated on the basis of the distribution of wages in each region, taking into account specific rental rates and subsistence minimums.
According to the results of the study, in Tatarstan, renting a two-bedroom apartment was available for 66.7% of families. The minimum income required to cover basic needs and rent was about 107.7 thousand rubles per month. This indicator allowed Tatarstan to outperform the Sakhalin region (66.4%), Nenets Autonomous Region (66%), Murmansk Region (65.5%), Chukotka Autonomous Region (64.8%), as well as the Belgorod and Kaluga regions. Moscow ranked 19th with a score of 60.1%, where the required monthly income for the family reached 206 thousand rubles.
Leading positions in the availability of rental housing were taken by Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous District (77.5% of families with an income of about 140 thousand rubles), Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District (77.4% with 183 thousand rubles) and Magadan Region (72.1% with 209 thousand rubles). On average in Russia, the indicator of rental affordability increased by 3.5% for the year, reaching 53.6% of families able to rent a two-bedroom apartment, with an average required budget of 131 thousand rubles. The lowest indicators of accessibility showed Chechnya (14.4%), Ingushetia (19.1%) and Kabardino-Balkaria (22.5%), where the required family income ranged from 105.7 to 124.9 thousand rubles.
