Tractor driver in the Kopyl district was convicted of stealing 2.7 tons of fuel

The Prosecutor’s office of the Kopyl district supported the state prosecution in a visiting court hearing in a criminal case against a 53-year-old local resident – the man is charged with misappropriation of the property entrusted to him. It was established that the accused worked in one of the agricultural enterprises of the Kopyl district as a tractor driver. To perform agricultural work, the company gave him diesel fuel. Between July 1, 2024 and July 16, 2026, the defendant stole about 2.7 tons of fuel from a tractor attached to him. So, when working on the tractor, excess fuel was formed, which the man did not reflect in the travel lists. Then, with the help of a polymer hose, he drained diesel from the tractor fuel system into polymer canisters with a capacity of 20 liters each. In total, the accused stole about 2.7 tons of fuel worth more than 5.7 thousand rubles, which he stored at his place of residence and intended to use for personal purposes.

During the inspection of his home, police officers seized part of the stolen property. In court, the man admitted his guilt in full, repented of what he had done and compensated for the damage. Taking into account the evidence presented by the public prosecutor, the Kopil district court ruled a conviction. On the basis of Part 1 of Art. 211 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus, the accused was sentenced to restriction of freedom without sending to an open-type correctional institution for a period of 1 year 6 months with a fine of 100 basic values (4.5 thousand rubles) and deprivation of the right to hold positions related to accounting, storage and disposal of material values for 3 years.
