Last weekend, Sofia Dmitrievna Maralova celebrated her hundredth birthday, a man whose life has become an example of steadfastness and dedication. She was born on October 10, 1926 in a village near Ples and from childhood knew the value of labor.
The war caught her as a teenager: instead of a school desk, a collective farm field, where she, along with adults, polished, mowed and dried flax.
For her honest work, Sofia Maralova was awarded anniversary medals.
Only after the Victory, she was able to realize her dream by enrolling in a pedagogical college. All her life Sofia Dmitrievna worked as a primary school teacher in the Ivanovo district. School didn't end for her with a call: she would bring students home to help with her homework.
Now the honored veteran lives in the boarding house “Forest”. To the question about the secret of longevity Sofia Dmitrievna answers wisely: you need to study all your life, read a lot and never say swear words. Despite her age, she retains a cheerful spirit and gladly accepts congratulations.
Long years and good health!
