The Investigative Committee for the Republic of Karelia put an end to the investigation of the high-profile murder that occurred in 2006. The defendant was a 59-year-old recidivist who had previously had problems with the law due to theft and robbery.
The tragedy occurred in November 2006 near one of the railway stations of Petrozavodsk. The accused, being a guest, asked the owner of the house two pairs of shoes in debt, in advance planning not to give the money. When the owner demanded payment, the attacker decided to solve the problem radically. He lured the man into the street, led him into a secluded place and dealt him at least 16 blows with a metal gas key. The injuries were incompatible with life.
The body was found by the owner the next morning. The criminal, taking the passport and the gold ring of the deceased, fled. With the help of the victim's documents, he purchased a train ticket and left the country.
For many years, the crime remained unsolved, and the suspect was on the run. However, modern forensic technology has allowed investigators to trace the fugitive. The man was detained in Moscow. During interrogation, he admitted guilt only partially. Now the accused is in jail, and the case materials were transferred to the court for sentencing.
