Participants of the SG Youth Forum in Mogilev adopted a resolution on the protection of historical memory

Today, October 9, the Youth Forum of the Union State “Memory” continues to work in Mogilev. Choice. Responsibility”. Kuleshov Moscow State University brought together young deputies, parliamentarians, historians and social activists from Belarus and Russia. Here was an open lecture by Deputy Chairman of the Standing Commission on Education, Culture and Science of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly Vyacheslav Danilovich, where the resolution of the forum was adopted, the correspondent of sb.by reports.

In the context of hybrid threats, the common historical memory of Belarus and Russia is a strategic security resource and a solid basis for the integration of the two countries. The youth strongly condemned the falsification of history, the rehabilitation of Nazism and attempts to impose alien values, stressing that the sovereign development and protection of traditional ideals is the only way to preserve national identity. To protect the value core of society in the digital environment, the participants called for the active use of modern media tools and pledged to strengthen ties between youth organizations, involve peers in educational projects and cherish the memory of the feat of ancestors for the sake of building a common peaceful future of the Union State.

Polina Bondarenko, a history teacher at the Ostroshitsk-Gorodok secondary school in Minsk district, noted that communication at such venues is always of great importance. After all, this is a unique opportunity to exchange useful experience in conducting patriotic events and local history activities both with Belarusian colleagues and with like-minded people from Russia:

- Our main task as teachers is to preserve historical memory and competently pass it on to the younger generation, which is critical for modern society. The logical result of this great joint work was the final resolution. It is based on the fundamental idea of consolidating the youth of Belarus and Russia in defending the historical truth. We strive to ensure that the younger generation not only remembers history, but also actively participates in real practice: participates in large-scale research projects, search and excursion activities. The experience we have gained here will definitely be incorporated into school work.

- They also clearly see and understand what is happening in the modern world and see the geopolitical situation. In this vein, the importance of preserving historical memory has increased significantly. We need to move forward in this direction, developing our state and the Union State. What are our differences from the European Union? The Union State of Belarus and Russia is based on the principle of respect for the sovereignty of the two countries. This is a very important point, because in the modern world there are very few real sovereign states. And what is sovereignty, to put it simply, is the right to decide for ourselves how we live and develop, and not to act under dictates from outside. This makes the Union State integration model very attractive for the international community. Because any sane state, a sane people wants to live as they see fit.

These key points, stressed Vyacheslav Danilovich, and noted in the resolution. In his opinion, holding such forums is an effective tool to counter the dominance of false information that is available on the Internet:

- Confronting such things on the Internet is very difficult. It takes a lot of money to do that, because the West has been investing in these things for decades. But they don't have one key thing that we have. They don’t have a chance to talk to our younger generation. And we have that opportunity. Young people have this opportunity: they interact at a patriotic forum, and then they will come and tell their peers and colleagues about what happened here, why it is important, valuable, and share this experience.
