In the Kalmyk Research Institute of Agriculture, functioning at B. B. Gorodovikov Kalm State University, winter sowing began. The total area of experimental plots is 40 hectares. Here we are working with winter soft and hard wheat, as well as with triticale.
The research programme covers 22 varieties. Most of them, namely 18 varieties, are the main ones, while four more are promising breeding lines, claiming the status of full-fledged varieties. Genetic material from the leading agricultural regions of Russia, including the Krasnodar Territory, the Rostov Region and the Stavropol Region, was used for testing. In addition, varieties of local Kalmyk selection are planted on the fields, such as Bair, Bulgun, Yashkulyanka, Khasyr and Hamdan.
The scientific program of this year includes seven breeding experiments and two winter experiments studying the effectiveness of fertilizers and biologics.
