Scientists have identified signs that can predict heart and vascular problems 10 years before diagnosis
Problems with the heart and blood vessels can make themselves felt long before diagnosis

Problems with the heart and blood vessels can make themselves felt long before the diagnosis. The study found that declines in physical endurance and ability to perform routine daily tasks in some people begin about a decade before a serious cardiovascular event. The results are published in JAMA Cardiology.
The researchers examined data from about 12,000 elderly people, more than 2.4 thousand of whom subsequently suffered a heart attack, stroke, heart failure or other cardiovascular complications. Their condition was compared with the indicators of more than 9.6 thousand participants without such events.
It turned out that future patients long before the disease more often showed physical weakness, coped worse with stress and lower assessed their own physical condition. The gap with the rest of the participants began to increase about five years before the cardiovascular event.
The researchers identified the earliest changes before the development of heart failure and fatal coronary heart disease. Some signs were observed more than ten years before diagnosis. The authors believe that tracking the gradual decline in physical abilities can help to identify people with increased cardiovascular risk earlier and take preventive measures in a timely manner.
