In Sochi, on the beach "Ogonyok-3" in Adler during the opening of the All-Russian festival of rowing sports, a patriotic action "Wreath of Memory" was held.
According to the resort administration, about 100 athletes from different regions of the country participate in the festival. The action was timed to the day of liberation of the Krasnodar Territory from the Nazi invaders.
The head of Sochi Andrey Proszubin reminded that last year the tradition of sea wreath laying was revived in the city. Last year, on my initiative and with the support of the Sochi Geographical Society and the museum community, we revived the tradition of laying wreaths on the waters of the Black Sea in memory of the fallen defenders of our coast. Today we continue this important work, preserving historical continuity and passing on the memory of the heroic feat to the next generations. Thanks to the search and research work, we know the names of more than 80 pilots and sailors who died in the battles for Sochi. Behind each of them is human destiny, courage and loyalty to the Motherland. It is our duty to cherish this memory and to continue studying the military history of the city. The Wreath of Memory campaign has already become a good annual tradition that unites Sochi residents around respect for the heroic past of our country.
In Sochi, this tradition appeared in the Soviet years. Since May 1979, the memorial ritual was held annually on Victory Day with the participation of veterans, schoolchildren and crews of sea boats.
