Representatives of 25 denominations and 156 nationalities live in Belarus

Today, representatives of 25 faiths and more than 150 nationalities live in Belarus. Despite this diversity, the country successfully maintains international peace. This was reported to journalists on September 14, Commissioner for Religions and Nationalities Alexander Rumak. Details - in the material of the correspondent of the agency "Minsk-Novosti".

Residents of Belarus consider themselves to be 25 denominations and religious directions. In addition, according to the 2019 census, we have representatives of 156 nationalities – and this is despite the small territory of the country and the population, said Alexander Rumak.

He stressed that the maintenance of interethnic peace is a strategic policy of the state.

The Constitution of Belarus guarantees foreign citizens and stateless persons the same rights and freedoms as Belarusian citizens. Insulting national dignity is prosecuted by law, at the state level, all conditions have been created for the implementation of the rights and protection of the interests of citizens regardless of their origin, faith and language, the speaker said.

According to A. Rumak, the state supports national and cultural associations in buying traditional costumes and publishing thematic literature, including on the events of the Great Patriotic War.

- Let me remind you that representatives of 70 nationalities of the former huge country, the Soviet Union, participated in the defense of our lands from the Nazi occupiers and the liberation of Belarus. Their names are immortalized in the names of streets in Minsk and other cities, the speaker emphasized.

Summing up, A. Rumak stressed that the Belarusian land today remains an island of peaceful life, where foreign citizens can find peace, security and a new home.
