This year marks 30 years since the first All-Belarusian People’s Assembly, which approved the five-year development program of our country.

- People voted on a number of important issues. We were faced with a choice: either we will end up in the abyss, or the country will develop. It was necessary to raise factories from their knees, to establish processes, to make people work well and live well. The right path has been chosen in Belarus, said Lyudmila Gladkaya, a columnist for the SB Belarus Today newspaper.

Political columnist of the TV channel “First Information” Evgeny Gorin, in turn, stressed:

- In the past, the GNS was held once in five years. After the change in status, it began to be carried out more often. In 1996, we can say, there was an assembly point of the new modern Belarus. The branches of government argued among themselves, it was impossible to restore any order, to pass any laws. And the GNS became the assemblage point that outlined the goals and ways to achieve them. Time has shown that this was effective.

He drew attention to who was involved in the first WNC:

- To elect almost five thousand delegates, tens of thousands of meetings took place across the country. More than 2.5 million people participated. That is, it is a true instrument of democracy. People chose their representatives.

STV political columnist Grigory Azarenok added:

- The choice was: an oligarchic republic or a strong presidential power and a course for an alliance with Russia. Key decisions related to socio-economic development were made there.

Maria Pavlova, editor-in-chief and journalist of the ANNA-News news agency (Russia), noted the successes Belarus has achieved over the years of sovereign development:

Your President is fully and completely with the people. He wants the country to develop. All your indicators indicate only that you are going up in dynamics. I want this country to continue to prosper. You always want to come back here.
