The full production cycle of textile waste management from collection to processing will be launched in Minsk this year. Belarusians will be able to give things a second life using special containers. This was told on the air of the TV channel “Belarus 1”, reports sb.by.

Previously, textile waste was usually sent to landfills in Belarus, now unnecessary clothes and shoes will be collected for recycling. For this purpose, special containers will be installed, each is designed up to 100 kg. The first will soon appear in three districts of Minsk. The preparation of a large-scale project took six months.
“To keep things clean, put them not soaked, oiled, or dirty in a bag. Shoes are better separated from clothing. I would like to preserve the fabric as much as possible. Textiles from containers will be taken out manually and collected in a special machine, said project manager Natalia Sharangovich.
The collected textiles will go to the sorting line. “About 50% of it will be sent for reuse – for charity, to second-hand stores,” said Ervin Kurtbedinov, general director of the waste collection and processing enterprise. – About 30% will go to rags. We will dispose of the rest, not at landfills, but for the production of alternative fuels.”.
A large-scale project is being tested in Minsk. The first 50 containers will appear in the Frunze, October and Moscow districts. There will be another 200 containers next year. If successful, the project will be extended to the entire country.
