About 1.7 million older people live in Belarus. 660 Belarusians have been living in Belarus for 100 years or more

About 1.7 million people over the age of 65 live in Belarus. Of these, 660 people noted a hundred or more years. This was told to journalists on September 29 by Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Protection Marina Artemenko, the correspondent of the "Minsk-news" agency reports.

— Representatives of the older generation are the foundation of our society. They contribute to the socio-political life of the country, preserve the traditions of mentoring, take part in the education of young people, "M. Artemenko emphasized. — Today, about 1.7 million people over the age of 65 live in Belarus. The vast majority of them — 66% — are women. As for the place of residence, a significant part of the older generation — 74.3% — are citizens.

The Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Protection drew attention to the fact that older people began to live longer: life expectancy in the country is increasing.

— There are 45 thousand centenarians in the country — those whose age has exceeded 90 years. The centennial anniversary was celebrated by 660 people, "the speaker quoted the data.

She recalled that the National Strategy "Active Longevity" is aimed at comprehensively taking into account the needs of older people. Its goal is to make people of different ages feel comfortable in society and with the departure for a well-deserved rest, a person remains visible, visible, valuable for society.
