The Belarusian State Medical College hosted the next action “I am a donor”, in which students and staff traditionally participate. This time, more than 120 people joined the procedure. The college holds four such events annually, and each gathers more than a hundred participants. Doctors of the RSPC of transfusion and medical biotechnologies come to the place, conduct an examination, monitor weight, pressure, hemoglobin levels and other indicators, writes sb.by.

About 600 college students become donors each year. Participation is completely voluntary, and teachers treat the initiative with understanding, release from classes, workout is not required. Many children continue to donate blood after graduation. Since 2023, more than 1,500 people have joined the actions organized at the college. More than 600 liters of blood have been collected, a volume that can help hundreds of patients.

- In educational practices in emergency departments and emergency rooms, they are faced daily with situations where blood is required immediately. Participation in actions becomes a manifestation of civic responsibility and solidarity of the student community. It is important to know about the medical benefits of regular donation, which renews the body and reduces the risk of many diseases.

Educational lectures are held at the college on this topic. RSPC specialists tell students about the requirements for donors, contraindications and procedure. In the information center, children who already have experience in blood donation answer questions, share how they felt after donation, what motivated them to come again and why participation in actions is a conscious professional and moral choice for many.

The experience of holding such actions in BMMC was highly appreciated by the professional community. RSPC Transfusiology and Medical Biotechnologies became the winner of the XI All-Russian award "Complicity" in the nomination "For saved lives". Practices for the development of donation among young people is due to systematic work with educational institutions.

- In the lectures, experts explain that one donation can save three lives. This fact is an important motivating argument for me. Plus, there is a family tradition: the brother also graduated from this college, now works in the ambulance and continues to donate blood, as he did during his studies. I’m going to continue to do that, too: the feeling of helping others is meaningful to me.

- I never felt bad after the procedure. On the contrary, I consider it useful for the body. But the main thing is the need for blood of my group and Rh factor in patients who need it for operations, injuries and various diseases. I am attentive to the preparation: before delivery I avoid fried foods, eat more fruits, and after the procedure I choose foods that quickly restore energy. These are fast carbs.
