On the Day of National Unity in Dzerzhinsk, a monument to soldiers-internationalists was opened. This was told by the chairman of the Dzerzhinsky district executive committee Nikita Reut, who took part in the rally, the final of which took place at the highest point of Belarus - Dzerzhinskaya mountain, BelTA writes.

According to Nikita Reut, representatives of the Dzerzhinsky district joined the regional rally dedicated to the Day of National Unity, after a landmark event for his countrymen.
Today in the new park, which appeared during the preparation of the city for the festival of workers of the village "Dazhynki" at the intersection of Minsk and Karl Marx streets, we opened an important object for the district. The joint forces of the district executive committee and the district veteran organization installed a memorial sign in memory of soldiers-internationalists at the new location. Its author was the artist and sculptor Vladimir Kanonik from Fanipol. The memorial is a worthy symbol of our common memory, a reminder of how very young guys went to fulfill their international duty for the sake of peace, said the Chairman of the Dzerzhinsky District Executive Committee.
Historical justice was also established by the efforts of historians: in addition to the two well-known names of Private Eduard Zhigalko and Senior Lieutenant Vyacheslav Sidorovich, the name of the third native of Dzerzhinsky district, Captain Alexander Popkov, who died in the Afghan war, appeared on the memorial sign.
