On October 9, a scheduled check of the readiness of civil defense systems took place in Kalmykia, as in all other regions of Russia. At 10:40 local time, sirens designed to warn the population about emergencies were launched throughout the country.

Such events are held on a regular basis and serve as an important part of preparing the infrastructure for possible threats. They allow specialists to verify the serviceability of the equipment and check the communication channels. In addition, such exercises help citizens get used to beeps and better understand how to act on different types of alerts.
