In Chuvashia, the subject of protection of the cultural heritage object of regional significance “Water Tower Kanash Western” was approved, built in 1892-1893 in the forms of brick style.
According to the document, the architectural features of the structure are taken under state protection: a two-tiered octagonal design, rectangular window openings with a beam finish, a doorway with a semicircular completion, as well as the material of the facade decoration - clay brick. Restoration work must now be carried out taking into account these characteristics.
The tower was built as part of the construction of the Moscow-Kazan railway line initiated by the order of Emperor Alexander II in 1891. With the beginning of through train traffic in December 1893, Shikhrany station (now the city of Kanash) acquired the status of a major railway junction.
