In the eastern Chinese province of Shandong, on the slopes of the revered Mount Taishan, staged unusual competitions of modern machines. The organizers called the rocky terrain the best natural testing ground for the endurance of robots in real conditions.
The walking machines had to climb thousands of stone steps and show coordination. To complicate the task, the machines competed not only in speed, but also in the accurate transportation of fresh eggs.
In a tense race in the framework of the new World competition of mountain robots participated about 90 engineering teams, presented their own designs. The route with a length of almost 4 km with an ascent of more than 600 meters had to pass as quickly as possible or as carefully as possible to deliver to the very top delicate cargoes, among which were watermelons and fresh eggs. To do this, the robots had to climb 3,000 steep steps of stone and bypass obstacles.
Uneven surface and constant rise became a severe test for many mechanisms. One humanoid robot with a bandana lost his balance and collapsed directly onto a paved path. One robo dog could not resist, rolled down the stairs and froze near the garbage can.
However, many participants successfully completed the task. The winner in the four-legged category was a deft robot dog created by Beijing-based technology company, a subsidiary of giant Unitree. Iron assistant confidently completed the distance in just 43 minutes. The result was impressive, as the vast majority of ordinary tourists this difficult journey takes at least 2 hours. At the same time, the fastest humanoid robot from the Beijing team was able to overcome a shortened version of the track in 27 minutes.
