In the village of Lukh, Ivanovo region, researchers found burials dating back to the XVII-XVIII centuries. Excavations were carried out in August 2026 as part of the work on gasification of the Assumption and Resurrection Churches, the Shui Archaeological Expedition reported.
On the five-square-metre site, experts found two well-preserved burials — men and women, as well as the remains of five destroyed children's graves. Both adults were over 45 years old at the time of death.
An anthropological study showed that the man had degenerative joint changes and caries. He lost two teeth and suffered a broken rib. The height of the man was about 175 centimeters, women - 158 centimeters. Found crosses helped to determine the approximate time of burial.
According to the researchers, the cemetery at the Resurrection Church existed until 1771, when Catherine II issued a decree on the placement of cemeteries outside the cities. New findings have made it possible to clarify the boundaries of the historical parish.
