In Mikashevichy found the bone of a young mammoth: the find handed over to scientists
30 years after the discovery, a resident of Mikashevich gave scientists a valuable artifact – the left humerus of a young mammoth. Now experts of the Institute of History of the NAS determine its age.
In Mikashevichy found the humerus of a young mammoth, said Alexey Avlasovich, head of the center of archaeology of Belarus Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences. This is reported by BelTA.
The find has already been viewed by experts, it turned out that this is the bone of the left shoulder of a young mammoth. She's in good condition. The age of this bone is not yet known, tests are being conducted. Now it is already in the exhibition of the Institute of History. Most likely, we will store it or pass it to paleontologists, said Alexey Avlasovich.
A resident of Mikashevich presented a new exhibit to the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. The artifact was discovered 30 years ago.
My father worked as an excavator at RUPP "Granit". Removed the upper layer of sand to reach the granite. And during this manipulation, the bones were found. I was a schoolboy then. The find was kept for about 30 years. And I decided to transfer it to scientists, said Vladimir Mironov.
