The Counter-Terrorism Forum started in Minsk on October 7. It united the IV CIS Conference on Countering Terrorism and Extremism and the XII International Scientific and Practical Conference of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure, the correspondent of the Minsk-Novosti agency reports.
The organizers were the State Security Committee of Belarus, the Anti-Terrorist Center of the CIS member states and the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure.
More than 300 delegates participated in the forum. The conference is attended by representatives of the competent authorities of 18 CIS and SCO member states.
Opening the forum, First Deputy Secretary of State of the Security Council of Belarus Alexander Neverovsky voiced the welcoming speech of the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko.
During the plenary session, KGB Chairman Ivan Tertel and other participants spoke.
Assessing the current challenges and threats, the speakers stated that the international situation is characterized by a continuing increase in geopolitical uncertainty and an unprecedented increase in military and political tensions that provoke the global economic crisis.
