The sentence of a 57-year-old previously unconvicted resident of Orsha, who, moving along the sidewalk on a bicycle, hit a pedestrian, and then left the scene, leaving the victim in danger, the Minsk prosecutor's office told the correspondent of the Minsk-Novosti agency.
At about 7:45 on June 19, 2025, the accused was riding his bicycle at a speed of more than 13 km/h on the sidewalk of Mogilevskaya Street. Suddenly, he saw three pedestrians moving in a passing direction, but did not slow down or give an audible signal, deciding that he could pass between them without hindrance.
However, at that moment the 70-year-old woman suddenly took a step to the side and the cyclist knocked her down. After he helped her to rise - the pensioner was in a state of shock, showed the defendant that her jacket was torn and blood was oozing through the fabric. The man replied that he was in a hurry to work, wrote down her phone number, promising to pay damages, and left, leaving the victim in danger.
Minchanka called an ambulance herself. The doctors brought her to the hospital. According to the expert opinion, she suffered injuries classified as less serious on the basis of a long-term health disorder for a period of not more than four months.
After the victim wrote a statement on bringing the cyclist to justice, against him opened a criminal case. The citizen fully admitted guilt in the incriminated crimes, repented of what he had done, apologized to the victim and voluntarily compensated her for moral and material harm.
- The accused is married, employed by an electric welder, has not previously been brought to criminal liability, commented the prosecutor of the Minsk Prosecutor’s Office for Supervision of Compliance with the Law of Court Decisions in Criminal Cases Kristina Kondratenkova. The court found him guilty of committing crimes under Part 1 of Art. 321 of the Criminal Code (“Violation of the rules ensuring the safe operation of transport”) and Part 3 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code (“Leaving him in danger”), and imposed a final punishment in the form of one year of restriction of freedom without sending him to an open-type correctional institution with a fine of 40 basic units (1 800 BYN).
The sentence has entered into force.
