In the evening of October 8 and on the night of October 9, residents of Russia will be able to observe the Draconid meteor shower. According to the forecast of the Moscow Planetarium, with favorable weather and clear skies, you can see up to 15 meteors per hour.
The name of the stream is associated with the constellation Dragon, in the region of which there is a radiant - a point in the sky from where meteors visually fly away. Find the desired area will help asterism "Dragon's Head", resembling the wrong bucket of four stars.
Draconids move relatively slowly and may have a yellowish or reddish hue. The most convenient landmark for observation will be the northwestern part of the sky. In October, after sunset, the Dragon Head is high above the northwestern horizon, and by morning it shifts lower to the northern part of the sky.
A meteor shower occurs when Earth passes through the plume of Comet 21P/Giacobini-Zinner. The number of visible meteors will depend on weather conditions and the transparency of the sky.
