The opening of the Center for Weight Loss was held on the basis of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Clinical Hospital N.A. Semashko. The corresponding message is published on the website of the government of the region.
For overweight people, diagnostics, the appointment of drug therapy and, if necessary, bariatric interventions are organized here. The service is provided within the framework of compulsory medical insurance in the presence of medical indications and the appropriate referral from the attending specialist.
Work with patients is carried out by a multidisciplinary staff, including psychiatrists, cardiologists, surgeons, endocrinologists and other doctors. A personalized therapy regimen is selected for each.
Deputy head of surgery Nikolai Kiselev stressed that the problem of excess weight has a social nature. In his opinion, this is especially true for young people, patients with diabetes, metabolic disorders and diseases of the musculoskeletal system.
“Operational intervention is not required for everyone: for some patients there is enough drug treatment and subsequent medical control,” he said.
The first step is a face-to-face appointment with an endocrinologist. Together with the surgeon, the specialist determines the feasibility of the operation. Before the intervention, the patient will have to undergo the necessary research, and with special indications, adjust drug therapy and get a psychiatrist's consultation.
Nizhny Novgorod was visited by Vladimir Stankevich, head of the Obesity Treatment Center at the FMBA of Russia, to share practical developments. Local surgeons from the hospital underwent specialized practice there.
Stankevich notes that surgery in the bariatric sphere helps to eliminate not only excess body weight, but also the diseases that accompany it.
Patients will be followed up for a year after surgery. According to the head of the department of endocrinology Olga Zanozina, they will be assigned an individual diet, physical therapy, and will also be offered to visit the School of Weight Correction and receive psychological support.
