In Novgorod, a slacker will go to work for a million-dollar alimony debt

The court sentenced the man to correctional labor for failure to pay alimony without good reason. This was reported by the joint press service of the courts of the Novgorod region.

The court ordered the Novgorod citizen to pay for the maintenance of the child in 2010, but the father did not comply with the court decision. In November 2024, he was brought to administrative responsibility and assigned 50 hours of mandatory work, but he did not serve them.

At the same time, the man did not try to get a job, did not apply to the employment service, did not provide the child with any voluntary financial assistance and did not try to repay the debt. The total debt on alimony exceeded one million rubles.

The court took into account mitigating circumstances: the defendant admitted guilt, repented and partially repaid the debt. The man was sentenced to correctional labor for a period of 5 months with the deduction of 5% of salary to the state income.
