In Novosibirsk, the mayor’s office has not found a new tenant for the Aurora cinema

In Novosibirsk, the city authorities have not yet decided on the further use of the building of the former Aurora cinema on 49 Karl Marx Avenue. After the eviction of the former tenant, the mayor’s office tried to find a new one, but no applications were received. This is reported by “Precedent” with reference to the city administration.

In the spring of 2026, the municipality terminated the lease agreement with the Siberian Film and Theatre Development Fund. Initially, it was reported about the debt of the organization for rental payments, but later the mayor’s office clarified that the reason was the transfer of premises to a sublease not provided for by the terms of the contract.

Representatives of the organization tried to challenge the termination of the contract in court, but the courts supported the position of the municipality. On June 9, the bailiffs sealed the building and handed over the keys to the representative of the city administration.

After that, the Department of Land and Property Relations offered socially oriented non-profit organizations to rent a former cinema. Applications were accepted from September 8 to October 7, 2026.

However, no organization expressed a desire to occupy the premises within the prescribed period of time. As a result, the building with an area of more than two thousand square meters continues to be empty.

At the same time, the maintenance of real estate costs the city budget about 3.5 million rubles a year. Funds are spent, among other things, on heating and protection of the facility.

In response to a question from journalists about further plans, the mayor’s office said that the Department of Land and Property Relations is still considering options for using the building. Whether the authorities will re-search tenants or change the terms of the premises is unknown.

The Aurora Cinema opened in February 1969 and became the first large-format cinema on the left bank of Novosibirsk. After the termination of work in June 2026, film screenings in the building did not resume.

Earlier, MK in Novosibirsk reported on the plans of the mayor’s office to transfer the building of the Aurora cinema to a new tenant.
