In Orel decide the fate of kiosks with the press
In the administration of the Eagle discussed the problem of mass closure of newsstands

The Orel administration discussed the problem of mass closure of newsstands. The authorities and entrepreneurs are trying to find a compromise to keep the print press within walking distance for citizens.
According to the press service of the mayor's office, now there are about 30 specialized pavilions "Orelropechat", "Don-Press" and "Read". But their numbers are rapidly declining. Only in 2025 due to losses closed 13 points. Interest of readers falls, auctions for vacant places remain without applications, and strict town-planning regulations do not always allow to extend the lease of land. In addition, most kiosks work on a shortened schedule - from 10:00 to 16:00, missing the morning and evening flow of customers.
At the same time, the mayor’s office emphasizes the social importance of such points: paper newspapers are still needed for elderly and disabled residents. It is from them that they learn city news - from yard repairs to water outage schedules.
To support the industry, the authorities proposed two solutions: the first is to move stalls to residential neighborhoods, the second is to sell periodicals in supermarkets.
It is noted that in sleeping quarters passability is more stable than in the center. For example, “Orelropeti” has already offered to open a pavilion on Orelstroyevskaya Street. And placing racks with the press in federal retail networks will allow entrepreneurs to save on the maintenance of individual stalls. In addition, shops work longer, are equipped with ramps for people with limited mobility and are located literally in every yard.
