In Karelia, law enforcement agencies are investigating a high-profile case of major fraud. The victim of the criminal scheme was an 18-year-old resident of Petrozavodsk, studying at a university in St. Petersburg. Attackers, posing as employees of the service service, gained access to her account on the portal “State Services” through a code from SMS.
Further, the scenario developed according to the classical scheme: the girl got a call from the “siloviki”, saying that a power of attorney for the criminal was issued on her behalf. To avoid criminal liability, the student was persuaded to come to Petrozavodsk and “save” the accumulation of a relative. Under psychological pressure, the girl opened her grandmother’s safe, taking away her currency and jewelry. She passed the values to the courier, who called the password “tram”.
The criminals did not stop there, forcing the victim to take a loan. The realization of the deception came only after consultation with the curator of the college. The damage amounted to more than a million rubles: among the stolen — antique gold watches, jewelry with precious stones and significant amounts in foreign currency. The police are currently searching for those involved in the crime.
