Petrozavodsk police warn citizens about a new scheme of remote deception, the victims of which were two local residents. In both cases, the victims tried to rent an apartment through popular online platforms.
The first victim was a young couple planning to move to St. Petersburg. Finding a suitable option for 42 thousand rubles, they contacted the “lessor”. Under the pretext of booking, the scammer sent them a phishing link. When a “order delivery” error occurred during payment, the attacker convinced the couple that it was a technical glitch. After repeated translations on new links and communication with “technical support”, the connection with the scammer was interrupted, and all data on the ad disappeared.
A similar situation occurred with the 18-year-old Petrozavodskaya. The girl transferred about 21 thousand rubles for the first month of residence and bail, clicking on the link from the email. Immediately after the transaction, the “mistress” blocked the client, and the support service of the site confirmed that the ad was fake, and the money was misappropriated by criminals.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Karelia, criminal cases were initiated on both episodes.
