In Russia, there is an increase in the number of complaints about atypical respiratory infections, but information about the “complete change of strains” and the specific names of new viruses (A/Missouri, A/Darwin, B/Tokyo) requires a cautious attitude.
According to official data and expert comments as of November 2026:
Recall that the infection is especially dangerous for people over 65 years old, pregnant women, patients with chronic heart and lung diseases, people with immunodeficiency. Doctors warn about the risk of developing primary viral pneumonia (up to the need for ventilation on the first day), myocarditis, pericarditis and secondary bacterial pneumonia.
The main measure of protection remains vaccination. In the 2026–2027 season, influenza vaccines were updated in line with WHO projections to provide protection against these updated strains. In medical organizations, including in the Republic of Karelia, stocks of drugs meet the needs.
