In Russia recorded a significant decrease in the number of calls from phone scammers

In the first nine months of 2026, the number of phone calls from fraudsters arriving at the numbers of Russian citizens decreased significantly. This information leads the publication “Izvestia”, based on the statistics of leading cellular communication companies.

According to the publication, representatives of operators explain this trend by the entry into force of new legislative acts, as well as the improvement of protective mechanisms based on artificial intelligence. In the period from 2025 to 2026, government agencies introduced specialized anti-fraud platforms and made stricter control over the turnover of SIM cards.

At the same time, experts believe that this dynamic is due to a change in the tactics of criminals: they abandon voice calls in favor of other forms of cybercrime. In particular, the direction of malicious software development has received rapid development. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 3,126 offenses were committed with the help of such programs in August 2026, which is almost nine times higher than in the same month of 2025.
