In North Ossetia proposed to shoot the bears because of frequent exits to people

In North Ossetia, cases of bears coming to people in search of food have become more frequent, in connection with which experts proposed to consider large-scale regulation of the number of predators. The situation was told by the head of the Federal State Hunting Supervision Inspectorate Artur Bitarov.

According to strict accounting, the number of bears in the republic increased from 299 individuals in 2023 to 312 in 2026. Predators cause damage to other fauna, destroying, for example, reindeer cubs, and the development of ecotourism and the construction of recreation centers increase the chances of people to meet them.

Autumn animal activity is a natural process of fat accumulation before hibernation, but this year they have become more common with people, said the inspector. An alarming situation is developing in the mountainous areas: in the village of Upper Lars, a bear turned over the hives of a local resident, systematic complaints come from the villages of Kuraitta, Upper Zgid and Galon, Alagir district.

Permits to regulate the number in the areas of appeal have already been issued, but the inspectorate considers these measures insufficient and proposes to conduct a large-scale regulation. In addition, experts say that in a warm winter, some bears may not hibernate at all.
