From the new academic year, all Russian schools will have a mandatory course “Artificial Intelligence and Information Security” for pupils of grades 5-11. This was reported by argumenti.ru.
Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko called for more active introduction of artificial intelligence in schools. According to him, nine out of ten young Russians already use AI, and it can displace the usual work tasks faster than the economy creates new ones.
Minister of Education Sergey Kravtsov, in turn, reminded that the course on AI and information security will be mandatory for grades 5-11. He stressed that it is important to talk not only about opportunities, but also about risks, and that AI is needed for development, not for write-off. Meanwhile, Rosobrnadzor has launched national studies on the quality of general education to assess the educational work and functional literacy of schoolchildren.
While schools are only planning to introduce a course on artificial intelligence, St. Petersburg is already showing high results in this area. The city took second place in the ranking of regions in terms of the level of development of AI technologies, gaining 98.71 points. Moscow beat him by only 1.29 points.
