New York Gov. Katie Hokul has signed an executive order declaring a state of emergency in response to the rising incidence of measles in rural areas of the state and surrounding states.
According to the governor’s website, the New York authorities will take measures to hire additional health workers who will be able to conduct measles vaccinations and do appropriate tests. It is noted that in 2026 in the state identified 108 cases of measles, seven of them in the city of New York, and since mid-July, the state authorities have used more than a thousand doses of vaccines in rural areas.
Recall that in the United States recorded a record high number of cases of measles over the past 35 years: according to the latest data from Johns Hopkins University, since the beginning of the year in the country registered 4,020 cases, and as the cause of the outbreak, doctors single out a decrease in the level of vaccination of the population.
