The Smolensk region will be engaged in the development and popularization of taurels - a native Russian board game, which is considered an ancient analogue of classical chess. The corresponding cooperation agreement was signed at the International Sports Forum “Russia – Sports Power” in Krasnoyarsk. Signatures under the document put Deputy Chairman of the government of the Smolensk region Anastasia Gapeeva and President of the Federation of Taurel of Russia Yuri Dolzhenkov.
The main purpose of the signed agreement is to restore interest in ancient intellectual fun. The region plans to actively hold competitions, and the key project will be the opening of a specialized Taurel Center on the basis of the famous archaeological complex "Gnezdovo". This site was chosen not by chance, because it is here that the historical atmosphere will best emphasize the spirit of the ancient Russian game.
The Governor of the Smolensk region Vasily Anokhin stressed that the number of supporters of a healthy lifestyle is steadily growing in the region and this trend should be supported. According to the head of the subject, the development of tavrels is not just the popularization of intellectual sports, but also an important step towards preserving national identity, as well as the revival of centuries-old traditions of our ancestors.
