In the Tver region, the winner of the project “People’s Veche – 2026” was Andrei Tupolev

On September 21, the results of the project “People’s Veche – 2026” were summed up. For three days, residents of the Tver region in face-to-face voted for an outstanding countryman.

At the first stage, 40,494 residents of the region took part in the online voting, at the second stage, more than 50,000 people made their choice on the project website, and in the final full-time round - another 80,000 citizens.

The interest that young people showed in historical characters who lived in the Tver region, and the reverent attitude to our region is amazing. This marathon was to take place so that we could see the people who are the pride of the Tver region and feel the joy of how many young people learned about their eminent countrymen with great enthusiasm and inspiration. This is expensive, said the Chairman of the Expert Council of the project “People’s Veche – 2026”, Chairman of the Tver regional branch of the Russian military-historical society (RVIO), Senator Lyudmila Skakovskaya.

So, with the result of more than 41.6 thousand votes, the winner was the famous aircraft designer, one of the founders of modern aircraft manufacturing Andrey Tupolev.

Andrey Tupolev designed and participated in the creation of more than 100 types of aircraft, 70 of which were serially produced. 78 world records were set on its aircraft, 28 unique flights were performed, including the rescue of the crew of the Chelyuskin steamer, non-stop flights to the United States through the North Pole by the crews of Valery Chkalov and Mikhail Gromov, landing on the ice of the North Pole-1 scientific expedition led by Ivan Papanin.
