In Ulyanovsk opened an endocrinological center for patients with diabetes

Residents of Ulyanovsk and three districts of the region can now undergo a comprehensive examination for diabetes in the new interdistrict endocrinology center. It was opened on the basis of the city polyclinic No4, having purchased eight pieces of modern equipment for the diagnosis and treatment of complications of the disease.

Medical care here is provided not only to citizens, but also to patients from Sengileev, Ulyanovsk and Tsilny districts. The main direction of the center is the identification of violations of carbohydrate metabolism and the prevention of complications that may occur with diabetes.

Special attention is paid to the state of the organs of vision. To do this, the institution was equipped with ophthalmic equipment, including an optical coherent tomograph, a refractokeratometer, a slit lamp, an ophthalmic tonometer and an ultrasound system.

Now patients can undergo several types of examinations in one place: check visual acuity, measure intraocular pressure, examine the fundus and retina. Computer perimetry, optical coherence tomography and ultrasound of the eyes are also available.

The obtained results help doctors to timely detect diabetic retinopathy, macular edema and other disorders. In addition, experts are engaged in the diagnosis and treatment of complicated cataracts, glaucoma and hemophthalm - hemorrhages in the vitreous body of the eye.

As explained by the chief doctor of polyclinic No4 Valentina Karaulova, the examination is organized on a single route. First, the patient goes to the district doctor, then the necessary studies and consultations of the endocrinologist and ophthalmologist are carried out in the direction. After that, he returns to the attending specialist with individual recommendations for further therapy.

In addition to visual impairment, the center pays attention to the early detection of diabetic foot - one of the serious complications of the disease that can lead to damage to the vessels of the lower extremities.

According to the acting Minister of Health of the Ulyanovsk region Maria Shalyagina, the new equipment allows to expand the possibilities of diagnosis and treatment of patients with endocrine diseases.

The work of the institution has already been established: medical specialists have undergone the necessary training and have begun to receive patients. The center was also visited by the Governor Alexei Russian, who got acquainted with its equipment.

The project was implemented within the framework of the national project “Long and active life”. Its task is to make specialized medical care more accessible to residents of the region and to ensure the identification of complications of diabetes in the early stages.
