In Valdai, within the framework of the XVI Tikhonov Pedagogical Readings, the Christian understanding of man and the challenges of modern technologies were discussed. This is reported by the website of the Novgorod diocese.
A round table on the topic “Christian teaching about man and the challenges of modern technologies” was held in Valdai school No. 1 named after Averin. Opening the meeting, Archpriest Igor Boytsov, dean of the Valdai District, noted that the question of how technology affects the understanding of human nature is especially important today.
Archpriest Alexander Ranne, Chairman of the Diocesan Department for Religious Education and Catechism, stressed that man is not only biology and physiology. In confirmation, he turned to the biblical text on the creation of man, recalling the expression “living soul”, which was widespread in Russian culture and literature. According to the priest, it is the moral criteria that help to distinguish human from animal and to keep reference points in a rapidly changing world.
A lively response from teachers was caused by the topic of using artificial intelligence by schoolchildren. Teachers talked about the fact that children are increasingly resorting to AI in the preparation of homework, and agreed that the family should be the main “filter” and source of moral attitudes.
