In Veliky Novgorod will improve lighting to reduce accidents

Veliky Novgorod is actively improving lighting at pedestrian crossings without traffic lights to make roads safer. Good lighting is especially important in the dark, when the risk of accidents increases markedly, the press service of the city administration said.

According to Denis Sergeev, Deputy Chairman of the City and Road Management Committee of the Administration, the State Traffic Inspectorate reports a high number of road accidents, so the authorities are carrying out comprehensive work to improve the road situation throughout the city.

Last year, the lights were updated at 38 such crossings, and this year work is coming to an end at another 19 sites. The representative of the contractor Ilya Ovechkin said that special contrast lighting is installed at the transitions. It stands out against the background of ordinary street lights and helps drivers to better notice pedestrians not only at night, but also in bad weather.

The backlight works automatically and is switched on simultaneously with general city lighting. Somewhere the lamps were fixed on existing pillars, and where it was necessary, new supports were installed. Next year, work on ensuring safety at pedestrian crossings without traffic lights is planned to continue.
