In Volgograd and Volga installed new detectors and surveillance cameras
Volgograd region expands “smart” transport infrastructure: modern equipment for traffic control and management appears on the roads of the region n

In 2026, the modernization affected key sections of the Volgograd road network – traffic flow detectors appeared on 15 important segments. At the same time, 77 new high-resolution video surveillance cameras were placed at the intersections of Volgograd and Volga.
According to the regional committee for ensuring the safety of the population and the Safe Region State Committee, the new video cameras work in real time: they record the situation on the roads, analyze traffic intensity, determine the level of congestion of roads and promptly detect road accidents. Thanks to built-in artificial intelligence, cameras are able to recognize state license plates and car brands, and in case of an accident, the system automatically transmits data to the operator.
Traffic flow detectors help to assess the traffic situation in detail: they count the number of cars (including by lane), classify vehicle types and measure the average flow rate. This data is used for flexible traffic light control. The equipment is integrated into an automated traffic control system, the task of which is to increase the capacity of streets. For this purpose, the “green wave” and “green street” modes are applied, and priority public transport is provided. More than 70% of Volgograd traffic lights are connected to this system.
The development of a smart transport environment in the region is proceeding systematically. The Volgograd region has a unified transport system management platform: it combines data from cameras, photo-video recording complexes, information boards, as well as information from meteorological and environmental monitoring systems. Currently, the regional network operates 2.3 thousand cameras and about 700 complexes of photovideo recording.
Modernization is carried out with the support of the federal project “System-wide measures for the development of the road economy” within the framework of the national project “Infrastructure for life”.
