In Voronezh delivered a particle of the Intercession of the Most Holy Mother of God

The Annunciation Cathedral of Voronezh brought an ark with a fragment of the Intercession of the Most Holy Mother of God - one of the most revered Christian relics. The Divine Liturgy was performed by Metropolitan Leonty of Voronezh and Liskin. From early morning, hundreds of believers came to the cathedral to meet the shrine.

The cover is a part of silk clothing of beige shade. According to legend, it was in this vestment that the Mother of God was dressed on the night of the Nativity of Christ.

Church chronicles indicate that the relic was brought to Western Europe from Constantinople. The Byzantine Empress Irene of Athens presented it as a gift to Emperor Charlemagne, seeking to strengthen the ties between the two empires. The relic was later inherited by the monarch’s grandson, Charles II, who donated it to Chartres Cathedral. There it became the main shrine of the temple and the center of pilgrimage.

The first miracle associated with the cover dates back to 911. Chartres was besieged by the Normans. The local bishop carried the relic on the fortress wall, using it as a banner. The attackers were suddenly overwhelmed by inexplicable fear and blindness - the army retreated in panic and the city was saved.

Relics can be worshiped daily from 7:00 to 21:00. From October 13 to 18, the ark will be available in the Palace of Creativity of Children and Youth, where the spiritual and educational forum “Under the Protection of the Most Holy Mother of God” will be held.
