For the first time in Zhirovychy, the forum “Miracles of the history of Belarus in the faces of saints” was held

For the first time, the forum of students “Levels of the history of Belarus in the faces of saints” was held in Belarus on the basis of the Holy Dormition Zhirovichi Monastery. This is reported by the official portal of the Belarusian Orthodox Church, writes sb.by.

The forum of student youth “Miracles of the history of Belarus in the faces of saints” was held in the spiritual center of Belarus – the Holy Dormition Zhirovichi Metropolitan Monastery – with the blessing of the viceroy of the monastery of Archbishop Guriy of Novogrudok and Slonim on October 10. It was dedicated to the memory and spiritual feat of the Monk Martyr Seraphim (Shakhmutya, 1901-1946), Archimandrite of Zhirovich. This year, the Belarusian Orthodox Church celebrates two significant dates associated with his memory: the 125th anniversary of his birth and the 80th anniversary of his martyrdom.

The forum was attended by teachers and about 100 students of Slonim State Medical College and Zhirovichi State Agrarian and Technical College. The inhabitants of the monastery – Hieromonk Nikolai (Chebotarev) and Hieromonk Damian (Lipchevsky) – acted as organizers and speakers. They introduced the guests to the history of their native land, including the events of the Great Patriotic War, when faith and patriotism demanded special courage from a person. The participants of the event got acquainted in detail with the life and feat of the Monk Martyr Seraphim Zhirovichsky, his example of sincere service to God and people in the years when the spiritual hunger of the people was especially acute, and the confession of faith threatened with mortal danger.

The forum became for young people not just one of the lessons of history, but a living testimony to how Orthodox faith and love for the native land can become a support in any life circumstances, the BOC stressed.
