On the Day of Worker of Agriculture and Processing Industry, Governor of the Smolensk Region Vasily Anokhin addressed the village workers. He quoted the words of President Vladimir Putin that farmers are rightly called breadwinners of the country, who hold the position of Russia as one of the leading producers of agricultural products in the world.
The Governor gave specific figures of the region’s success in 2026:
Plant production: Smolensk region remains the leader in Russia in the cultivation of flax-durgun. The sown area under it has grown to 7.4 thousand hectares, and cleaning has already been carried out on 5.4 thousand hectares (which is almost 2 thousand more than in 2025). For the harvest of 2026, 74.7 thousand hectares of winter crops were sown.
Livestock: Significant growth has been recorded. The number of cattle increased by 18.8% (to 126.7 thousand heads), gross milk yield by 3% (116.5 thousand tons), and egg production increased by 27.6% (277.6 million units). The food production index in August was 105%.
Vasily Anokhin also spoke about the large-scale support of the industry: this year more than 1.5 billion rubles were allocated for the development of the agro-industrial complex and rural areas. For the first time, subsidies for advance leasing of equipment have been introduced, and entrepreneurs can receive Agrostrap grants, preferential loans and subsidies for the purchase of seeds of domestic selection.
In conclusion, the Governor thanked the workers and veterans of the agro-industrial complex for their dedication and love for their native land, wishing them health, prosperity and rich harvests.
