Venice tightens the screws: the entrance to the city for tourists will rise in price
Venice authorities are considering increasing the tourist fee for entering the historic center

Venice authorities are considering increasing the tourist fee for entering the historic center. For one-day tourists who do not sleep in local hotels, the fee can rise to 30 euros. This was stated by a member of the municipal council Michele Dzuin, who oversees budget and taxation issues.
According to him, the request to the government to raise the rate is not connected with the desire to replenish the treasury. The current fee of 5-10 euros is too affordable and does not serve a deterrent function. Dzuin noted that earlier there were proposals to set the fee at 50 euros, but now we are talking about the amount of 30 euros.
The final fee will be approved jointly with the Italian government and parliament.
Municipal authorities also plan to increase the number of days when entry to the historic center will be paid for one-day guests. Earlier, the new mayor of Venice, Simone Venturini, proposed a differentiated approach: raising the fee to 30-50 euros on days of especially large tourist flow.
Several categories of persons are exempt from payment of the fee. Among them are tourists staying in hotels in Venice, children under 14 years old, residents of the city and the Veneto region. The benefits also apply to law enforcement officers, the disabled, students, employees of local businesses and citizens with relatives in Venice.
