The memory of the outstanding Soviet and Russian designer of small arms Mikhail Kalashnikov is immortalized in the geography of the North Caucasus. Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin signed a decree on assigning the name of the legendary gunsmith to one of the unnamed mountains in North Ossetia.
The relevant document is published on the official portal of legal information. The initiative is aimed at preserving the memory of the Hero of Russia, twice Hero of Socialist Labor and participant of the Great Patriotic War, whose contribution to the country's defense is recognized worldwide.
The assignment of the name took place within the framework of the federal legislation on geographical objects. Now the name will be officially entered in all state registers and maps.
Lieutenant General Mikhail Kalashnikov (1919-2013) went down in history as the creator of the most famous and reliable machine gun in the world - AK-47. His biography is closely related to the defense of the homeland: in 1941 he went to the front as a tank commander, was seriously wounded, and then devoted his life to the development of weapons that ensured the sovereignty of the state for decades to come.
Earlier in North Ossetia there was a tradition to assign the names of outstanding figures of Russia and the world to unnamed peaks. The appearance of the “Mikhail Kalashnikov Mountain” will become another important symbol of the connection of times and respect for the feat of people who worked for the benefit of the Fatherland.
Earlier it was reported that the railway station Grozny was named after Akhmat-Haji Kadyrov.
